Jerry Weinstein

In 1995, after 30 years of teaching, I retired. How would I fill the yawning gaps of unstructured time that I now had?
Fortunately, my love of the outdoors and the fact that I lived in such a beautiful place as Western Mass., made those ‘yawning gaps’ easy to fill.

Along with my love of nature and outdoor activity I discovered the camera. From 1996 until about 2001 I learned to photograph with a 35mm SLR film camera.  Close-ups of flowers became my primary subject.

In 2001 I switched to digital, using a high-end compact and a digital SLR. I have been delighted with the opportunity to edit and print my own color images, something I would never have thought of doing with color film. .  In addition to print making I have given a few digital slide shows set to music. But my favorite activities are finding, photographing and printing. The digital process involves a steep learning curve and I have a long way to go. But I’m in no hurry and that’s part of the fun

While I have photographed in various settings around this country, most of the photos in this show were shot within a 25 mile radius of Leverett.

My hope is to be able to communicate some of the joy of nature to others.
