Ron Juels

Ron Juels

I work with traditional black and white, silver based, photographic materials and processes.  Most of my pictures are made with a view camera producing 4”x5” negatives that are subsequently enlarged or contact printed.  I find that the flexibility, expressiveness, and limitations of the view camera, silver halide emulsions, and chemical processes are well suited to my intentions.

My pictures are a reflection of my relationship with natural light.  For me, the modulating properties of light elicit a most intense emotional response particularly as day recedes into the glow of twilight.  Although my pictures are rarely literal representations of the physical sources that inform them, I also do not stray far from what one might see, although perhaps not recognize.
